The British Columbia Technical and Research Committee on Reclamation proudly presents:
Morning Session:
9:00am – 12:00pm
Stantec Consulting Ltd. – Overview of Preparing Reclamation Liability Cost Estimates for BC Mines Act Permit Applications
Elevate your mine reclamation planning and financial security strategies! This workshop provides guidance on navigating the complexities of Reclamation Liability Cost Estimate (RLCEs) for major mines in British Columbia, based on the recent 2024 BC Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals (MCM) guidance update. Through a practical, applied approach, the workshop will delve into real-world applications using a comprehensive example reclamation project. This functional approach will illustrate key parameters, required components, and cost categories involved in RLCE development, and demonstrate how to relate GIS spatial data mapping of a mine site to the reclamation liabilities. Invest in the crucial training in order to obtain regulatory compliance and champion sustainable and responsible mine closure.
Instructors from Stantec Consulting are Lionel Borges, B.Sc and Lori Stewart, B.Sc, M.Sc., P.Geo.
Lunch: 12:00pm – 1:00pm (both workshops)
Afternoon Session:
1:00pm – 5:00pm
EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc. – Monitoring Soil and Vegetation for Progressive Reclamation and Closure: Experimental Design and Field Considerations
This workshop is intended to describe the underlying principles, experimental design and field considerations for monitoring soil and vegetation as key components of mine site reclamation and closure. In this half day course, participants will be provided an overview of soil conservation and revegetation; experimental design, spatial considerations and data collection; and data management and reporting.
Instructors from EDI Environmental Dynamics are Jennifer Muir, MSc, RPBio and Patrick Audet, PhD, PAg, RPBio
Location: Princeton, BC (departure from Penticton)
Time: Approximately 8:00am-5:00pm (exact time to be confirmed)

All technical papers from 47 years of the Symposia are published annually on UBC’s eCIRCLE , accessed from the TRCR website, for use by reclamation practitioners and academics.
On the evening of September 24th, the annual awards banquet will be held with reclamation awards handed out for several reclamation categories, the best practical paper from 2024 and student scholarships.
As a reminder, in 2024 the Jake McDonald Annual Mine Reclamation Award was presented to Glencore Canada for the reclamation of the Central South bulk sample project and exploration area in north-central BC. Reclamation work involved moving and recontouring more than 300,000 cubic metres of material and reclaiming 56 kilometres of exploration trails and roads along with 96 drill pads. Reclamation activities included mounding to promote lichen survival and establishment in alpine areas as well in forested areas to create microsites for tree seedlings. To promote caribou habitat, conifer seedlings were chosen over shrubs in establishing cover to reduce attractants for other species. Glencore is recognized for their quality of work, extent of land reclaimed and completion of work of a high standard.
The TRCR Committee will be pleased to see you at the 48th Annual Mine Reclamation Conference in Penticton, BC – Welcome all.
